What are the best email subject lines?

Great Email and Subject Line Copy Example

I have a dedicated email address for advertisements from my favorite brands, and I scan through the subject lines, oh, once a week or so. Most get deleted.

Yes, I want gray suede shoes, but I'm resisting. Delete.

I don't need a new batch of business cards. Delete.

I'd like to win a trip to Hawaii, but I'm not going to bite. Delete.

Then some are just delightful, even if I'm not in the market. Like the recent email I received from The Parker in Palm Springs. "Come Fry with Us" the subject line called. Oh, no. It's 114 degrees F in Palm Springs in August. Sometimes hotter. No way. But I opened it. And ... I wanted to go. What makes content so persuasive sometimes? The Parker's email writers are clearly having fun with the copy. It's playful. It makes me smile. It's scannable. It doesn't take too much of my time. Best of all, it's tempting. The best subject lines are:

  • Short
  • Specific, with rich words
  • Delightful or funny
  • Personable
  • Hold promise for what's inside
  • Different than the others in your box
